What Is MALA?

MALA is a statewide, member-driven association dedicated to supporting and advancing Missouri’s Assisted Living (AL) and Residential Care (RC) communities. Our mission is to empower providers through advocacy, education, and collaboration—ensuring high-quality care and a strong, unified voice for the industry.

For years, we have proudly represented the interests of AL and RC facilities before legislators, regulatory agencies, and the public. We work closely with key state departments to influence policy and protect the integrity of our field. But we are more than just advocates—we are a trusted resource and partner to our members.

Forms & Education

MALA is a certifying agency for the Department of Health and Senior Services and sponsors training for administrators, Level One Medication Aide and insulin instructors, staff certifications and resident assessment training as required by the Department of Health and Senior Services.

We conduct bimonthly Train-the-Trainer workshops to certify a nurse as an instructor of Level One Medication Aide and Insulin Administration courses. Throughout the year, we also offer the ALF Resident Assessment Training required by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

JOB HIGHLIGHTS-Assistant Health Care Director

We are looking for an outstanding individual to help lead the nursing team as an Assistant Health Care Director. You will support clinical services such as resident medication management, health assessments and supervising the nursing staff. You will make a difference in the lives of residents by ensuring they receive excellent direct care.

Responsibilities-Assistant Health Care Director

  • Assisting in the management of the nursing department including recruiting, training, scheduling, and ensuring quality of care
  • Verifying the proper distribution and required documentation of medication, treatments and orders
  • Participating in regular resident assessments and service planning, and following up with ancillary health care services as needed
  • Assists with the move-in and move-out process including tours, orientation, evaluations and family communications
  • Provides direct care when needed, such as during health emergencies or to fill an open shift
  • Assuming the Health Care Director’s responsibilities in their absence, and relaying concerns to the Director

Requirements-Assistant Health Care Director

  • Required: a current nursing license (RN or LPN) and CPR certification as required by the state
  • Required: at least 1 year of prior relevant experience
  • Prefer: previous supervisory experience, preferably in senior living
